Since you've been hunting since 1961 and are confident in making the shot, that implies that you have experiance at those ranges. That being said, what do you use now for those long shots...I would think you should already know the answer to your own question.

Anyway, for what it's worth..I would lean toward a 300WM or 300WSM if you want a newer case design.

Difference from 300 yards to 700 yards is like winter in Florida as opposed to winter in Alaska...not even remotely close. Id say less than 2% of all hunters out there could pull off a 700 yard shot with regularity....
