Remington 700 BDL Recoil Pad

I've recently tried installing afew different pre-fit Sims recoil pads onto my Remington 700 BDL without much luck. The Sims packages say certain models will fit, but they never do. The gun has the plastic butt pad which is ok, but I would prefer something a little softer. Has anyone else had this problem? Would a 'smith be able to install a decent pad on for me?What doi do?Thanks in advance.

Have a gunsmith install a grind to fit pad. If they know what they are doing it will look a thousand times better than the pre fit models.

+2 I tried to get one to work for an older model 700 which is a safe queen really and was unsuccessful as well. I ended up getting a pachmayr grind to fit, looks good and fit is perfect (also works better then the same butt plate you refer too;))

Then you may not want the Sims: they're a lot softer! My buddy & I have '06s in BDL & CDL (which has the Sims), & we shot them side-by-side. No comparison whatsoever.

Have a 'smith put it on for you. It'll look great, & it'll make the BDL soooo much easier to shoot.

Thanks for the help guys. Do I purchase one of the grind to fit pads and have him do the work on it? What's the process of grinding? Is the recoil pad on the gun when it's being grinded? Sorry so many questions as I'm unfamiliar to the process. Thanks in advance.

R3 issims. I also tried one of these thinking I'd get a better fit but no luck.

As to the process for a smith and a grind to fit. They'll sell you the pad and you for fitting. I have installed a few grind to fit myself and the process i use is remove the stock from the action/barrel, then install the grind to fit onto the rifle, put 2 wraps of masking tape around the heel of the butt and grind it down using a bench sander until the first layer of masking tape is removed. I then finish fit it by hand. With the sims I freeze the pad before grinding, works much better as the resin used is soft. Pachmyar I haven't.
