M1A/M14

Anybody have one of these rifles?I was going to buy a new AR but the more i look at the M1A the more i like it.How do they shoot?

The M1A is probably my most favorite rifle. I have a SuperMatch that I used for NRA High Power competitions and it'll shoot a lot better than I can! There's nothing like the feel of iron and wood! I would guess that an "off the shelf" Standard or Loaded model M1A will shoot MOA with the correct ammo. With Mil-Surp itmight shoot a little worse probably. Get one. You won't regret it!

ditto. i have one, i wanted one for a long time then my dad bought me one! i even carried it out hunting. it shoots great and feels good in my hands...also it looks sweet! lol

They shoot as well as what you should expect from a $1200-1500 rifle, which is to say - very well.

For "hunting" though, they're excessively heavy and bulky in comparison to a good bolt gun, not to mention thatfinding magazines (that are reliable)is a very expensive proposition, and I've yet to find a "legal" 5-round M1A magazine for hunting, though the Springfield is shipped with a 10-round.

I highly recommend getting a Springfield armory. I bought one last year upgraded it with the McMillian DMR stock, Leupold Mark4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M1, plus a few other goodies. It shoots .55 m.o.a @100yrds with blackhills 165 gr MHP ammo very accurate up to 800m. Downside of course is the weapons price, priceof ammo 5.56mm is alot cheaper than the 7.62 Nato rds. Fun rifle to shoot
