RE: Will this ever end!!!!!!
ORIGINAL: eldeguello the United States' largest firearms manufacturer, today announced a strategic manufacturing consolidation move that will result in the closure of its Gardner, Massachusetts plant ("Gardner"). This integration will be seamless and will not affect our customers or our product offerings. Do not forget, Remington also has their own cartridge company that is part of the parent company(not like Winchester). So they probably are the largest. I wonder if and how much of the manufacturing they are going to send overseas. Also remember that UMC(Union Metallic Cartridge) is a Remington company. And UMC is made in Mexico. HooRay for NAFTA. I am alsodisappointed in S&W with their new overseas manufacturing facilities. Tom. |

RE: Will this ever end!!!!!!
ORIGINAL: salukipv1 Well it may not end....but it certainly would help if Americans, bought american products.....and even more so would help if Americans had the opportunity to buy american products..... It would help if Remington actually madea quality rifle. Whats up with the powder blased finish on the barrels,or the non jeweled bolts, or the bend in half composite stocks, or the model 798 made in Serbia, or the 5lb triggers, can you say 710 or 770. JUNK! Come on, where is the quality control. Its time American gun makers take some pride in their work. Once they are putting out the quality that is expected in a europen gun, then i will buy a Remington. I dont see that happening any time soon. |
RE: Will this ever end!!!!!!
I happen to own a couple of remingtons and they are quality production rifles. I will admit the 710 is junk, but the 700 REM is what all other american made production rifles are measured by. This is my opion and the quality does fall short compared to some Euro custom rifles. However, Remington is a mass production company and quality is always sacrificed in mass production. If you want quality you have to pay the extra money and most americans can't afford to pay$3000.00 for a rifle. I also own a couple of Brownings and there rifles lack as much or more in quality as Remington. You pay for what you get in the line of quality.

Irecently purchased a Remington 700 CDL. It has a satin finish on the barrel, a jeweled bolt and a very nice satin walnut stock. These were the attributes I was searching for in my next rifle. I waspleasantly suprisedwith the stock when I got the rifle. I will admit that the trigger is a tad on the heavy side but it is not as bad I was worried it might be. |

Here's the rest of the story.;)
REMINGTON TO CLOSE H&R 1871 PLANT . . . Remington Arms Co. has announced a manufacturing consolidation move that will result in the closure of its Gardner, Mass., plant. Throughout the remainder of this year the integration of H&R 1871's operations will result in centralized sales and marketing, streamlined operations, standardized information technology infrastructure and common financial functionality, while maintaining individual brand identities and products, according to company sources. An estimated 200 Gardner employees will be impacted by the closure, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2008. "While it was a difficult decision to close Gardner, we believe that this consolidation will enhance our ability to more efficiently provide quality products at competitive prices in an increasingly demanding global marketplace," said Remington CEO Tommy Millner. Remington CDl/XCR average price is 850 bucks Sako rifles don't sell or 3000 dollars and yes they are mass produced . The difference is they are produced by manufacturers that have a conscience and want the best product out not a bean counter driven rehash of a design that has been out almost 50 years. A Browning rifle will kick a Remingtons azz in the quality control department anytime anyday. They wish they had the QC that Browning has. |
