cheapest plinkster ammo
i just bought some 500 rounds of federal champion ammo and it was 20 dollars. i would like some really cheap plinking ammo and im not interested in spending 20 dollars for plinking ammo. any decent plinking ammo that is real cheap?

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
REAL cheap is relative anymore... the days of $10 bricks of 22 ammo are long gone I'm afraid. About the cheapest I'm seeing anymore is Winchester Wildcat at about $16/brick and Rem Thunderbolt about the same.

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
if you are lucky and your local walmart's carries ammo, federal value pack 550 for like $11 or 12,
+1 on the wildcats, shot the for years out of my 22, no one have them in stock anymore around here |
RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
so i might get federal value pack and winchester wildcat
what is the best ammo in your opinion for squirrels, rabbits, and birds? |
RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
I have shot a number of groundhogs with cci minimags hp and the winchester wildcat.
around 10 to 15 rabbits with the minimags hp. but I stocked up on them when I bought my 22. down to my last 25 now. |

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
I second the Wildcats. They may be 'cheap' ammo, but they shoot great out of my Savage 22. Even better than Ely match ammo which cost about 4X as much.

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
where have any you guys seen winchester wildcat?
|
RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
sorry this may be dumb question but why would someone get hollow point over a solid point?
|
RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
Hollow Points are a little more destructive and thus deadlier to small game. Federal is good ammo. I wouldn't shoot Remington Thunderbolt if someone gave me a brick of it. I suspect the only difference between Winchester Hi Vel and the Winchester Wildcat is they don't bother to put the little copper wash on the bullets for the wildcat stuff. And that's 99% cosmetic.

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
I only buy the Federal bulk ammo. Had way too many misfires with the other 2 brands mentioned.

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
I picked up a couple of bricks of American Eagle for $15 a brick. Not bad ammo for the price and worked better than the Thunderbolt. The cheapest I've seen the Federal is still close to $20 a brick. $20 a brick for a lot of fun is still not much. If I wasn't handloading the premium loads for my 7mm mag I'd have to be buying them for $42/box of 20. Does $20 for a brick seem too expensive now?

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
Remington .22 ammo, especially the "thunderbolt" performs exactly as if Remington sets up all the primed cases and then just throws a handful of powder at them before seating the bullet. Some get the powder...some don't. Consistant? What's that?:D

RE: cheapest plinkster ammo
yeah
would you reccommend hollow or solid point for squirrel/rabbit? |
