Chances are, your Savage MkII doesn't have a Picatinny Rail, so the first one won't work.

Second one "clamps" onto the barrel (think scratching the stock is bad, try marring the finish off the steel and having it rust?!). Looks like the thing doesn't fit all the barrel diameters from reading the reviews, so there's no guarantee you're even going to get it to hold tight if it fits at all. I'd pass on the second one, too.

Yeah, inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. I've used Harris bipods for years and am perfectly happy with them. Sure, going to cost you three times what you'll pay for this one.

bipods that clamp onto a barrel are as useless as tits on a boar, as well as anything else made by Leapers.

No. I've looked on the Savage website and the none of the wood-stocked Mk IIs have a Picatinny Rail. I didn't look at the composite stocks.

Unless you buy a rail and bolt it to the forearm of your rifle, the first bipod won't mount on your rifle, either. There would likely be little advantage buying a rail and doing this. By the time you finish, you could've bought a decent Harris bipod which doesn't require the rail, just a swivel stud.

Call the company.... and for God sakes we are all happy you got a new rifle but I think I speak for everyone here when I mark that the threads are getting a bit overwhelming... between you here with your .22 and GMMAT with his stages threads on the bowhunting page I'm going to have a seizure for sure.... if you keep it to one MASTER .22 thread under your name... I'm sure you'll get your ?s answered just the same....;) Good luck... those savages are great shooters.

No need to appologise at all.... just a friendly suggestion.. might be easier for you to check just one thread than almost a dozen... might make a few folks a little more open about helping you out too... ;) The reference to GMMAT is just an inside joke for anyone who frequents the bowhunting forum here on HNI as well.... he is known lately for his theorethical/reflective posts that all sort of revolve around the same topic and usually spark debate and much ado about nothing. He is a good guy, so please don't take the reference as an insult.

Let's save you some money here. If your concern is battering your rifle's nice stock, consider getting yourself a hard case to store it in. I'm nutty about dinging up a nice piece of wood myself, but most of my rifles that have dings are a result of my handling them poorly, especially when storing them. A soft case isn't a guarantee when you're throwing other stuff into the closet in front of your stored rifle.

For the range, if you're worried about laying it down on the grass/rocks, etc., consider a shooting mat. The mat will also keep YOU out of the grass/rocks (or in my case, the goat-head thorns and cactus at the praire dog town). Can't afford a shooting mat? I keep a blanket in my truck that'll do in a pinch.

Bipods are wonderful aids to long range shooting. But, since a .22 is pretty limited in range to start with, a bipod is really "overkill".
