What bullet for Rem 700 .243 Win?

I recently found an old Remington 700 .243 Win at the family farm...it was burried in a closet in a mildewy case. It is at the gunsmith being brought back to life...can't wait to get it back and start shooting...what bullet should I start with...The rifle is probably 20-25 years old and has a 3 x 9 Luepold on it I believe. Will be used for whitetail/ varmits and targets....Thanks for the opinions.

A friend has a Mod 99 from the 60s it will shoot everyting on the shelf that said .
I like the 75-85 seirra hp for targets and everything through coyotes would shoot a 85-95 grn sp or spbt for deer out to 200-250 maybe . It's a fine antelope cartrige too .

I would use any 100 grains bullets or if u reload 105 grains and for varmints get a good 55 grain

My Remington model 700BDL like the Remington 100gr. Core-lokts. But each individual gun my like something different. You will Have to try them all and see what your rifle likes.

Nice find!!!

If shooting within 200 yards and wanting reliable exits, I would start with the 100gr Remington CoreLokt, 100gr Hornady Custom InterLokt or the 100gr Federal Premium Nosler Partition...I've had good luck with all of these...Use whichever groups best in your gun...

If hunting over soybeans where shots could be 300 yards, go with the Federal Premium 85gr Sierra GameKing HPBT or the Federal Premium 100gr Sierra GameKing SPBT...They shoot a little flatter, but don't always exit at the closer ranges...

The combo swap loadwe worked up for my12 year oldsvanilla .243, and what I'll likely use in my new .243 AI build is the 85 TSX/85 Sierra HP over RL15. He wacked 'em and stacked 'emout past 250 yards via the X's @ 3000 fps from the muzzle, and only one managed about 15yards in a sidesteppin' circlebefore giving out. The other two were basically bang flops.

The Sierra HP's are over the same powder charge, produce the same sub 1/2 MOA @ 250 that the X's do, and yield the same ballistic path out to 400as the X's thus no screwin' around with scope adjustments. We keep him zero'd at 250 for both loads.

We only hunt Big Gamewith X's, only shoot varmits/practice with a cheap swap load, and only drive Rem 700's.......

If you read it a little closer you'd cypher the "sub", and the"MOA"that I keyed into my post...

If you knew gun speakyou would translate thatinto roughly a 1 1/2 inch group or lessat 250 yards...

Easily attainable for those who do their homework and savvy things such as precision reloading.

Wouldshock you, no doubt, to know it's from an unfloatedfactory barrel, a 7X power setting, prone in a corn field, resting across a backpack, in a slight cross wind....by a 12 year old kid.

'Course he can shoot a littlebetter than he can Hip Hop....

He do havea fairrunnin' startat puttin' me to shame.......
