Winchester pre 64?
I found a Winchester model 70 pre 64, I think the store owner told me that it is was made in 1949, with an old Weaver 4 power scope. It looked to be in good condition, small nick in the forearm was about the worstspot on it. What is a gun like this worth? He told me he would take $650.00 for it, is that a fair price?

RE: Winchester pre 64?
Is it a Featherweight? What caliber? Is it a Super Grade? Is it a gun you need to complete your collection? These are all determining factors to consider. Get the Blue Blook of Gun Values by S.P. Fjestad if your looking at it as an investment only. This is the Bible of gun values.

RE: Winchester pre 64?
Shoot, some guys are paying 400 for the action alone for a pre64. I know I won't. If the gun is in good shape, I would say its worth it if thats what you want. In other words, if one is seeking a Pre64 in that caliber, then sure.

RE: Winchester pre 64?
Well, I don't know what they are bringing in your part of the world, but from the condition you described, the price seems decent. They are a sought-after gun. One thing you may want to keep in mind....I seriously doubt that their value is ever going to decrease on the market, and has been steadily increasing over the years. The last several years and more recently since Winchester went down have shown lots of collector interest.

RE: Winchester pre 64?
A lot depends on what caliber. There is a store down the road from where I work that hasa 375H&H pre-64 right now, they are asking $4000 for, and will probably get close to that in this area. I haven't seen too many pre 64M70s go undera grand recently, I would jump on it.

RE: Winchester pre 64?
I haven't seen a genuine pre-64 that cheap in this area for a few years now. Most are 1400-2000 for a nothing special rifle.

RE: Winchester pre 64?
I went back to check on it again today and it was gone. The store owner said that a guy came in right after me and bought as soon as he seen it, just my luck.

Never dilly dally on a Pre64, just buy it now and figure it out later.........you'll always get your money back bare minimum.;)

RE: Winchester pre 64?
I did the same thing at a gun show a couple years back. A guy had a '59, the tag said "300 mag" it was $600. I already had 3, .300WM's I got to the other side of the building and it dawned on me that it was a 300H&H. It wasn't fifteen minutes and it was gone : ( Like the man said, never dilly dally
