300 Win Mag Or 300 WSM??
300 Win Mag or 300 WSM????

RE: 300 Win Mag Or 300 WSM??
For all practical purposes they're virtually identical to each other in terms of performance. The WSM can function in a shorter action if that's important to you. And it's beltless, which appeals so some folks.
Personally I own a .300 Win Mag and I'm perfectly happy with it. If it were a 300 WSM I'm sure I'd feel the same way. |

The thing I look at is the 300WM has been around sincethe 60'sand will probably continue to be around for at least my life time. ( besides, I have too much brass to switch now )

RE: 300 Win Mag Or 300 WSM??
I have reloaded for both, and my 300win mag has smoked every 300WSM I ahve seen. I can get 3120fps with 180gr pill with RL22 out of my win mag. I have yet to see a WSM do that. I am still impressed how much performance you can get out of a win mag.

I have both and Iprefer the .300 Win mag. They are both close in performance with theedge going to the .300 Win mag especiallyif you reload (likebigcountry stated) but I think itjust feels better toshoot. All things being the same (cartridgewise) it has a totallydifferent recoilthan the.300WSM. It'smost likely due tothe tworifles but it's way different none the less. The 300 Win magwhile having a heavy kick feels more progressive while the .300WSM feels more short and stout....hard to explain in words....
I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with either. |

I also have both and prefer the 300 Win , just a matter of what you like though to be honest about it . They are both very accurate rounds .

RE: 300 Win Mag Or 300 WSM??
Well, like most everyone else said, the 300 Win has a slight ballistic edge over the WSM. But IMO, I'm not sure if a deer, elk, moose, etc would know the difference which one it was shot with. If I had to choose between the 2 today I would probably go for the WSM. Simply because of the shorter, lighter rifles it is chambered in - like the Browning Micro Hunter. Now if I already had a 300 Win Mag - I wouldn't go running to the gun shop to trade it in for a WSM. The 300 Win has been around a long time and has a great reputation. But I believe, in 15 or so years down the road, the WSM version will also be rated up there as one of the top game cartridges. Only time will tell.

I have never ever had a 300 win mag shoot as well as any of my 300 wsm's never ever. They are one of the least temperamental cartridges out there. |

300 win mag ammo is all over the place.
