if upgradeability wasnt a factor and both the marlin and ruger came as is with no add-ons or anything would you get the ruger 10/22 or the marlin model 60 and why?

Both are fine rifles, but I would buy the Marlin model 60. That is what I had growing up, and it never once let me down. But really, which ever one fits the best. They both go bang, the one that fits the best will be the best choice. Good shooting.

I've always prefered the 10/22. I like the idea of being able to remove the barrel if I want to brush the bore. With the Marlin you're more likely to damage the crown. That may be a small detail, but it is something to think about. Even though I'm not a huge Ruger fan, the 10/22 has always seemed to be a slightly better built rifle to me as well.

I feel the marlin in most cases is the better gun out of the box. At least in my experience it has been.
