Which power scope would you buy
 

I need advice on which power scope to buy for my 22-250 for varmint hunting Im looking at a weaver 4-16 or a 6-24 what would you do

in the daylight most scopes cannot be used past 16 power anyway.....they become foggy due to light conditions.....yes you can sometimes use 20 power.....but I assure you that in my book.....anything past 16X in a .22-250 is unneeded and extremely hard to use.

We have a 3x9x50 ,6x20x50 and a 8x40x56 all mounted on 22-250 rifles . If it came down to one it would be the 3x9x50 for me .You get to much distortion with the higher powers .

i,m going to agree that the higher power scopes are harder to use but yardage will be the deciding factor in what power is needed.if your shooting prarie dogs at 800 yards the a good 6 x 24 is in order.if your shooting woodchucks at 400 yards then a good 4 x 16 is the max you would need.i think the bottom line here is a quality 3 x 9 is better then a junk 6 x 24,you get exactly what you pay for.

For a 22-250 the 16x would be at the high end needed and comments about the light dimming and distoration becoming a factor are dead on.Use a quality scope(Vari X lll,Bushnell 4200,Nikon,Zeiss,Weaver)and stay in the 4.5x14/4x16 area.This will work well out past 500yds where the 22-250 begins to wander in the wind some what.I have a VariXlll 4.5x14x40 on one 22-250 and a 3.5x10x44 on the other and prefer the 3.5x10 the most.

I have a 6.5-20 x40mm leupold on my 22-250 win stealth and my rem 700 243.they work great .On real hot days I have to turn them down,but I usually shoot early mornings or late evenings.

I use a 24X Leupold for woodchucks...;)
