250 Savage Sighting

My future cousin and law and I were recently shooting his 250 savage trying to sight it in. I know the basic rule of having most deer rifles shooting 2-3 inches high at 100 yards, but was unsure of how to sight his 250 savage. Would the same rulehold true with a smallercaliber like a 250 savage? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

RE: 250 Savage Sighting

Well, there's a lot of open ground here. First, at what ranges are you expecting to get a shot at a deer at? If your normal and expected shot will be at 100 yds. or less, there is no need to sight in high at 100 yds. If you are hunting open ground and expect 200-300 yd, shots, then yes, sighting in for that range would be correct. One thing I would hope you would do is to actually shoot at the range you assume to be sighted in for. Unless you physically shoot that gun at known longer ranges, you really don't have a firm grip on the trajectory of your gun/ammo. The 250 Savage is one you don't normally see out there anymore, but is quite capable of killing deer and antelope sized game.
Just be sure you have a good grasp on where you are hitting at known ranges, and you should do fine.

I did some research today and found an article on ChuckHawks website. It's called "Rifle Trajectory Table" and has very informative info on a lot of different cartridges. I think I'm all set for what I want to do. Thanks for the info pawildman.
