RE: Custom vs stock guns

Yup.....accuracy don' t have to cost a mint......and a " custom" gun is just that.....not necessarily a " accurate" one.

RE: Custom vs stock guns

Vapodog-My own custom rifles are very plain and have no engraving or other cosmetic extra' s.They are built on trued and lapped stainless 700 actions, have sako extractors installed, are mounted with match grade barrels and are pillar bedded into mcmillan stocks. With proper loads they average 1/2" groups. The cost of each one was $2500 in canadian dollars($1600 in US dollars) or about $300 more than a weatherby mark 5 deluxe which comes with a 1-1/2" accuracy guarantee. So when I am paying the bill a custom gun is an accurate gun and the cost need not be as high as most people think. But you are right in the fact that not all custom guns are accurate as I myself have seen some very expensive pieces of art(stocked in fancy wood, with fine metalwork and engraving) that were no more accurate than the average factory rifle.
