Ruger Mini-14

Does anybody know where/why Ruger came up with this name for the Mini-14? Thanks.

RE: Ruger Mini-14

Probably because they wanted to market it as a scaled-down M14 even though its not.

Quite simple, really! It is sort of a miniaturized version of the U.S. Rifle, Cal. 7.62X51mm, M14. Hence "Mini-14"! (I'm assuming you know what the M14 is???)

RE: Ruger Mini-14

It was designed by James Mini. It was actually the 14th prototype and the version he finally sold to Ruger. Well it sounded good at the time I typed it :) The first two posters are correct of course.
