best load for rabbits?
Wondering what shotgun ammo is your favorite for rabbits. To keep things simple, let's limit it to 12ga.
please be specific! copper-plated, lead, high-velocity, 1.25oz, etc..... Thanks |
RE: best load for rabbits?
Plain old Remington, green and yellow box, high brass #6s...With an Improved Cylinder choke so you don't tear up too much meat...

RE: best load for rabbits?
LOL Thats exactly the same load I was gonna post NC. I use those Rem #6's for all of my small game. Cant beat em.

RE: best load for rabbits?
Whatever patterns the best out of your gun. It doesn't take much to kill a rabbit. I personally like large shot for small game hunting. Less pellets in the meat and they are easier to see. I won't shoot anything under #6 and prefer #4's for most stuff.

The cheap stuff will work great!

The cheapest box of plain old 2 3/4 #6s.

ORIGINAL: bigalc To keep things simple, let's limit it to 12ga. Thanks I've never shot a rabbit with a 12 gauge. Seriously. But I suppose if I did I'd still use #6s. 1 1/4 I suppose. Lord I'd cut them in half with it though! |
RE: best load for rabbits?
I use #4 shot in my .410..[>:]

RE: best load for rabbits?
6 shot. 4's in a 12 gauge tear em up pretty bad. I used to be fairly good at guessing the pattern on my old full choke shotgun and did not tear up much meat.

RE: best load for rabbits?
I use low brass 6's usually but have even hunted them with my AA 9 shot I used for skeet and it worked pretty good if you weren't hunting extremely thick cover.
