Best .308 version for antelope/deer out west?
Which .308 in your opinion would be the best for antelope, and deer? Something that can shoot well to 500yds say. Personally I like the .243 and 7mm-08, but I wonder about bullet selection of the .257 and .264 calibers might be a better option? Please make your choice and also give any info you might know about the difference performances of bullets amongst the .243, 257, 264, 277, 284 variety?

Having never seen an antelope that wasn't already stuffed on someone's wall, or even having been in a state where antelope range freely, 7mm-08. 500 yards... not me... but I'm sure in the right hands it can be done.

Antelope and plains deer are not all that tough and a decent hit with anything up from a .224" bullet will dump them quickly. I like a .260 Rem but have shot them with a 6mm, 7-30 Waters, .308, .25-06, .300 Win mag and some others. Pick your poison...........

500??????????? Ok.rather see you with an06' or 270 . 308 Will serve you well . 243 runs out about 350-375 real world real expirence . 250 Savage is a 25-308 the 22-250 is a neck down to 224 of the 250 savage .

I picked a 7mm-08 but i wouldnt want to shoot that much farther then about 400 yards with it. I would much rather have a 7mm Mag, 270, 30-06,300 Mag for the 500+ yard ranges even if it just Antilope and Deer.
