RE: winchester model 88
I have a 1967 carbine '88 in 308 Win. that I bought many years ago, used. I came with Weaver mounts and the original box. I put it away, and never fired it.
I also bedded one for a friend of mine. It was the rifle in .243. He said it dramatically increased it's accuracy. They were fine rifles, and not worthy of their demise in my opinion. |
RE: winchester model 88
killed my first deer with a post 64 88 in 308...
really like them rifles. good shooting, handles nice..look good...the rifle was my grandfathers...he passed away when mom was real young...he and my grandmothers 2nd husband left behind a couple guns...i took care of them and cleaned them since i was really young..couple times a year i kept them oiled...only ever used the 88 that first year and fell in love with my grandfathers winchester m50 12ga semi auto...used it ALOT...grandma never gave them to me...i even tried asking a time or 2...sad to say it but they will most likely be given to someone else in the family, though im the only hunter and only one that wont sell them. those are really the only 2 worth anything and the only 2 i use or want... would love to own an 88...but these days, if i found me a purdy one, i doubt id hunt with it...price just keeps on rising on them...wasnt long ago you could find one in great shape for 450-600$ EASILY... |

RE: winchester model 88
I got a Winchester 100, does that count? ;)
Back when the Model 100 and 88s came out, everyone around here got one or the other. I know there is at least a handful of guys herethat still use their Model 88s (308s) to hunt deer/elk with every year. |
RE: winchester model 88
I saw one at the store near my house and it looks like a pretty interesting piece. Thinking about buying it... it's in .308 and has a Weaver fixed-power scope on top. Anyone think that is worth the $450 they are asking? Looks like it's in good shape.

RE: winchester model 88
The going rate on gunbroker seems to be about $800. If its in good shape I think its probaly a good deal.
