a-bolt stock...aftermarket?
hi
my browning a-bolt doesn't fit me 100%, i need about an inch added to the buttplate area..how do i go about doing that? can i get a custom stock made, are there some available, or can i buy something and just screw it onto the end of the stock? (synthetic stock) any direction would be great!!

IMO your 'cheapest" route, if you never did it before, would be to take the stock to your local gunsmith and have him fit a recoil pad to it. The Limbsaver pad should give you that extra inch.

You can get a sims limbsaver slip on recoil pad and put it on yourself..... That is the easiest and cheapest way out, plus it will help reduce the recoil... That is a win - win to me. And the limbsaver pads are great , I own three or four that are on my more powerful guns.

you can have a 1" spacer added but you will also need a new recoil pad with everything grinded to fit the stock. gander mountain did my last couple for like 70-80$ including the spacer and the sims pad. cheaper way would be to buy the sims slip on pad for like 30$

I never did like slip-on pads, they always loosen and have a certain amount of wiggle. The best thing to do is install a grind to fit pad on it,that would give you the extra inch.

You need a black spacer which you can buy from brownells and then put on a Limbsaver or other 1" pad for the additional LOP and then ground to fit by a gunsmith. This is assuming the pad on your Abolt is 1/2" thick like the one on mine and I am reading your post right, if you meant 1 " from the buttstock less recoil pad then you need a 1" pad that should be a prefit from Sims or Pachmayr and that is a DIY for about 30 bucks plus or minus a few.

RE: a-bolt stock...aftermarket?
thanks for the ideas! i'm sure i'll figure out something with the above info!
i was thinking i might try to make my own stock too, from scratch...try it for my old .22 single shot first. where would i go to get wood blanks? is it possible to buy fiberglass blanks and just grind to fit?
