ruger m77 hawkeye reviews

im thinking about getting the m77 hawkeye in a 30-06. what do you think? how does it shoot at 400 yards. how is the barrel hold up? the reason im asking is i was going to get a browning a-bolt. but i read after a few shots the barrel heats up and shots began to wonder. i want a rifle i can take to the range and have some fun with and not have to worry about that happening. and what do u think of the stock and trigger.

I was looking at one in 7mm Mag but i got a Tikka instead. I likedthe way the Tikka fit me alot betterand the trigger is better on the Tikka. As for the barrel heating up any guns barrle will heat up quickly with any round as large or larger then a 30-06. If you want a gun to take to the range for fun get a 223, 204, 22-250, 22lr, 22 Mag, 17 HMR, or similar rounds for fun. The larger hunting rounds will make the barrels heat up quickly nomatter if its 30 degrees or 90 degrees outside. I shoot 100+ rounds out of my 22 Mag or 17 HMR at a time without the barrel getting too hot. My 204 has a pencil thin barrel and i can shoot around 10 shots before i have to let it cool.

I would much rather get a a-bolt/x-bolt than a hawkeye. The hawkeyes are good rifles but in my humble opinion, the brownings are clearly superior in a lot of ways.

Honestly, after I came to grips with reality you are better off with a Tikka. Trust me, the accuracy on Rugers bolt rifles how do I put this, they suck.

Id go with the A-Bolt as well over the Hawkeye.

You don't want to heat up a barrel at the range, its the worst thing you can do to a gun.
