Ox,do yourself and stick with any good rifle as the 710 was actually designed for the hunter that goes thru about 2-4 rounds a year. It's true they are junk, was designed to be disposable, and in fact the barrels cannot even be changed. The main trouble stems from the somewhat soft plastic sleeve the bolt slides in. It wears quickly, thus making operation of bolt a chore in the least. In other words-stay AWAY from them!!!

Run far far far away if you ever come in contact with a Remington 710!
I sighted one in for my neighbor once, I was actually the first person ever to shoot that rifle, and it was very sloppy, and didn't shoot very well either.

Mossberg is probably making the best "cheap" rifle now. Also some old 700's at the walmart might be a deal for you. Also check out Howa. As others said dont waste your money on the 710.

i had to clean my cousins 710....
lets put it this way...if it wasnt cold out that day, i would have cleaned it on the poarch so it wouldnt have been brought inside my house! lol.
making something like that aughta be against the law....but, for MANY weekend warrior "hunters" they are the perfect rifle and will last them a lifetime without a problem. i heard they dont shoot all that bad and are acceptable for the average hunter. if someone GAVE me one for free i wouldnt even attempt to shoot it..i would try my best to pawn it off to someone...i wouldnt even give it to a youth as a starter rifle...i wouldnt sell it cheap to a friend...i would try to give it to someone i didnt like! lol. and honestly, the price is not that good on them! still like 300-400$ and the scope....im sure its just as poopy.
for that kinda money or just a bit more you can shop the used rack and find a m700 with a half decint scope! and it will outlast us and the next generation if cared for properly!
