Long range yote rifle?
I'm looking for input on a long range yote rifle. We've got them trained around here so they stay out 500-700 yrds and no amount of calling will bring them in. We're thinking that a 7mm RM with 168gr matchkings would be a good setup. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

haha what? geez, 7mm rem mag?
I think .22-250 .220 swift, at those distances I'd say the .220 would be a clear winner out of any .223.
Or a .243 / 6mm with 55gr, or 25.06 with light bullets, though .257 wby with 87gr woudl be awesome I think at 500-700 yds if not further.....I think 7mm 168gr is a tad huge!
.270 w/100gr might be awesome, or even 130gr.
both of the .22's mentioned will do 500yds no prob on a coyote.

500 to 700 yards? although a 220 swift is my favorite varmint cartridge I would shy away from it at those distances. 6MM bullet has a higher BC and therfore you wont have as much wind deflection. If it were a custom 220 with a very fast twist say 7.5 or 8 that could handle heavy bullets I think it would then be the ultimate. I've killed a lot of ground hogs at 500 yards with a 220 but after500 yardsthe numbers are considerably less. Check all the ballistics at www.biggameinfo.com Play with the numbers. 6MM is the hot cartridge for 600 yard matches. There is a reason for that.

I understand your reasoning about using bigger cartridges on extremely long range due to better wind bucking ability. The thing is,most of the best 6mm/.25 cartridges for long range are wildcats. In factory form,it's hard to beat 25/06,6.5mmx284,and the various overbore 7mm and .30 magnums. Just hor far are you willing to go for ultra long range rig? Does it HAVE to be a factory cartridge or can it be a wildcat or something along the line of allen magnums or lazzeroni?

My choice would be a 25.06 with 75 gr VMax or HP (something along those lines)with a good BC. I have a 5x20x50 AO on mine which I built for a long range gun but since use it for antelope. It does a great job!

I've had pretty good luck (LUCK being the primary component according to my shooting buddy) on woodchuckswith my 25-06 at 500+. I use 100gr Nosler BT's. You're gonna want a good rangefinder and a tactical scope. Bullet drop from 500 to 700 is measured in feet not inches.
