Default Highest quality rifle under $3,000?

Most accurate/looks great/quality design/builtand under $3000, preferably under $2000, though probably over $1000, though open to anything quality under $1000 too.

HS? Sako? Christenson? Weatherby? Remington/custom?

I've only seen dakotas at $4500+ new...nowadays, model 76 I think?

HS- Excellent
Sako- Probably the best factory rifle made
Christensen- Awesome, but closer to $4000 for the custom model
Weatherby- Better can be had for less
Remington/Custom- Gets my vote, you can make it anyway you want. Stocks, barrels, etc...

Cooper.

For a precision rifle, I'd put a FN SPR on top.

These look like some new FN's.

I've heard lots o' good things about these guys:

http://www.edbrown.com/cgi-bin/start.cgi/customrifles.htm

They're right at, or just above, your $3,000 mark.

Of course, some of the $200 Stevens rifles will print ½" groups. Accurate? You bet! But you also mention,"looks great/quality design/built".That'swhere the other $2,800 comes in!

it depends on what you are looking for? wood/stainless/synthetic weight and caliber. This can alter a few choices And most important what fits you, and blows a bit of wind up your skirt when you shoulder it. Of all those you have listed, I have shouldered all of them, shot a few and bought a Sako. Weatherby ultralite was 2nd. On paper, (brochures) I liked HS, but it did not fit me. Spent alot of time with Christensen, but I grew up near where there built. Just spent a couple days at the conservation expo in Salt Lake, Ut and I am convinced I made the right decision. My dream rifle: Sako 85 in 300WSM, Christensen Carbon barrel, MacMillan stock (Sako 75 geometry) with a blind magazine!

I'll jump on the Cooper bandwagon. There are some real lookers made by them, and they WILL SHOOT too. Even their new 52's (repeaters) are amazing.
