JMO but since I'm not a reloader, I shoot the Hornady LEVERevolution 160 gr. I am extremely impressed with it's accuracy. I've never actually measured groups with a dial caliper or anything like that, but just eyeballing on 1" grid sight in targets I can get mine somewhere in the 1.25. BTW it's a Marlin 336W with el-cheapo Simmons 8point 3-9x40 scope. I'm actually planning to do away with the scope and go to ghost ring sight setup from XS Sights. http://www.xssights.com/store/rifle.html. You can also go with the weaver style scope rail and use the ghost ring as a backup. http://www.xssights.com/store/scope.html

Definatley, everyone who shoots a levergun should shoot the new LE ammo from Hornady. It will give you tighter groups along with better ballistics. I have shot this ammo at 300 yards with great groups and have even seen an antelope taken at 275 yds with a 30-30.

Try it, you'll like it!!!!!!

They recently added .357 mag and .44 mag to the lineup. I'm wondering if a .45 LC is to come.

I shoot the same gun and get 1.25 groups with the Hornady's. They are awesome rounds and they do a number on deer and will blow an armedillo in half too.

As cartridges go, the .30/30 is actually quite accurate. Any poor performances one gets from a .30/30 (or almost any other cartridge as well) can usually be attributed to something beside the cartridge-for example, a rifle made without adequate precision, crude sights, or just plain poor shooter performance!

Of course, the.30/30 cartridge will generally perform much better if shot from a well-tuned target rifle with a good scope than it will in a loosely-fitted clunker of some kind. But I once owned a Winchester Model 94 carbine that would put five rounds of one particluar lot of Remington 150-grain factory ammo into an inch or less from a benchrest every time I shot it. And everyone knows that no Winchester 94 is permitted to shoot that well!

My .300 WSM and .22-250 shoot groups less than 1 inch, so the 1.5 looks huge. I'm anxious to hear from the folks with .30-30 experience.
I am just assuming here, but the 300 WSM and 22-250 are more than likely bolt guns. I am also assuming that you may be using "premium" ammo in them. If that is the case, you are comparing apples and oranges by comparing your 30-30 groups to the WSM and 22-250.

Granted, my 336SS with LeverEvs will easily and consistently shoot under an inch at 100, but not all guns like the LeverEv ammo. My 336T will only do 1.5" consistently at 100 with LeverEvs, but it will do an inch or under (if I do my part) with Federal Classic 150 gr RN. In my case, I will give up a little bit of accuracy for the terminal performance of the LeverEvs.

Since you are also kneeling and using a bipod, I would bet that you can shrink your groups by shooting off a bench and sand bags, but 1.5" groups at 100 yards is plenty good for killing deer.

As of right now, no one at Hornady has said anything about .45 LC, but who knows, they have some pretty sharp engineers. One can only hope.

I used a westpoint cotter and Co 30-30 for several years, i always shot winchester 150 grn factory loads out of it. From a bench i could hold down around a inch group. sure with a few tweaks and maybe handloading some rounds you could proably get better acuracy out of it. But you have to consider that most lever 30-30's arent made to be tackdrivers you cant put a heavy match barrel or weighted stock on it. And 1.5 inch groups for deer are pretty good. One thing i will say though is you might try hornady's new lever evolution ammo, i havnt tryed them yet. but they claim to have excellent ballistics, and youd be able to acheive better acuracy at a longer distance ( out to 250 yds).

I started with a 1960's Westpoint 30-30 over 25 years ago and still have it in the back of my safe. It will probably never get shot again, but it is one of the guns that I will never part with.
