i can buy a marlin 17 mach 2 bolt action has a laminated stock, heavy stainless barrel,with a 3-9 simmons scope that matches the barrel only been shot 10 times is it worth 200 dollars

Considering I paid $219.00 (new at WalMart) for the 917V (blue barrel and plain wood stock) I'd have to say $200 for stainless lamainte with a scope is a great deal.

I got my Marlin 917V new at Wal-Mart for 199.99 so $200 is worth it with a scope. I would try to talk the price down some but $200 is worth it. If you can get him down to $175 then its a steal.

what kind of bullets do you shoot and what kind of distance do you get with them

The Marlin 917 in a 17 HMR. I shoot mine 100 yards. Ive found the 17 cal bullets suffer alot from wind drift past 125 yards. For the 17 Mach 2 i wouldnt see a problem shooting 100 yards with it. For hunting i doubt you could shoot that far but a 50 yards shot on a tree rat would be possible.
