Marlin 917
Hey everyone. I alwyas get good ideas on here so lets see what you all say about this one. I have a Marlin 917V I have a Silver 3x-9x Nikon Buckmasters scope laying around i want to put on it but the gun is blue and wood. Im going to be sending the gun to Aquila to get some work done to it. Should i get it rebarreld with a stainless barrel or just get the work done to it and paint the gun and scopein some kind of camo or buy a new scope that isnt silver? I had a 6x-18x scope on it for target shooting but want to hunt with it so i want the 3x-9x scope on it.

Mine does ok but i think it can do better. Im gettin 1.5-2in at 100 yards and the trigger sucks. I was just going to do the barrel so i can get a stainless one. I was thinking mabee i could sand the barrel down to get all the blue off of it? How would this idea work?

I can usually keep all of my groups at 100 yds under an 1 in.I was going to say that you might want to do a trigger job on it because they are pretty sucky. If your wanting to get a SS barrel you probly should go ahead and get a new barrel.

I would be happy with 1in groups at 100 yards. Aquila is going to blueprint the reciever, cut off thread and rechamber the barrel with amatch chamber, true the bolt and correct the head space, set the trigger at 3lbs, and bed the stock and replace the screw with a bushing and allen head screw.

You don't need to sand the blueing off, you can get liquid blue removers for that, Birchwood Casey makes one.
Nothing wrong with silver scope on a blue gun, it can provide a nice contrast.
Have you looked at teflon coating it? www.blackicecoatings.com Or go to Brownells, they have a do it yourself teflon coating called GunKoat and it comes in colors, http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=1145&title=TEFLON/MOLY%20OVEN%20CURE,%20GUN%20FINISH
