Default rem 870 or mossberg 500

I can buy a Mossberg 500 with rifled barrel and moveable sights also ported with an additional smooth bore bead site vented rib also ported. for $260.00. Or I can buy a Remington 870 for price unknown. Not taking price into consideration which gun would you buy and why? Thanks

I cut my teeth on the 870 and I've always had at least one. (Have 3 right now). The Mossbergs just do not 'feel' right to me. I've shot them and they are reliable. They just don't appeal to me as much as the 870. And the 870 never failed me in the field or duck blind.

You'll be able to get the 870 at or near the price of the Mossberg. Even for a few dollars more the 870 is a better deal, IMO. The 870 is a classic.

They are both great guns. The 870 wil cost a few dollars more but $20 wouldnt change my decision on a gun. Gow with whichever feels best to you. They both will be very reliable.

My first shotgun was the 870 combo with a 26 inch field barrel, screw in chokes, and a smoothbore slug barrel with rifle sites. Later I traded a old revolver for a 500 with a fully rifled cantilever barrel, and put a Nikon Pro Staff scope on it. The Mossberg is a tack driver with Lightfield Hybred slugs. I like both equally. I use them both depending on the weather conditions and what kind of cover I hunt. I don't think you'll be disapointed in either one.

i picked up 1 of each in12g this xmas. both combos.
the mossberg came with ported barrels, the rifled is cantilevered, cheap scope, and 3 choke tubes in the box.
the 870 has a matte finish, laminated stock, non ported, rifles sites and only 1 choke tube for a $100+ more.

If you are going to have a yungun' shooting it, the main thing I like about the Mossberg is the top safety. That said, I went with the 870 for my son, because he thought it felt better when he shouldered it, which I put more importance on. I now have 3 870's, one in 12 and 2 in 20.

I have a 500 and it is one of the toughest guns you will ever tote. The 870 is the toughest gun you will ever tote. You will be happy either way so see which one feels right and which gun setup will work for you best and make your descion.

I know there are a lot of mossberg fans out there and that is fine, but i don't think it is even close, 870 all the way. it just "feels" better and it comes in a mind boggling amount of styles, gauges, and accessories. I think it should be the starting point of any shotgun collection because it can do everything.
