Please post some pix when you have refinished it. I have one that I would like to refinish.

RE: refinish my savage 30-06
I used a spray on stripper
![]() scrap it off with a plastic putty knife and sanded it. ![]() worked like hell to get the gunk out of the checkering. ![]() I almost dropped my stain that is all this mass. I used cherry stain on the stock. (and that old grill) I used foam brushes a small to lay down a coat, and a larger one to even it out. this was just the first coat you see in the pic. |

RE: refinish my savage 30-06
you will lile the New Englander-it's my primary hunting gun. t/C makes great and not expensive drop-in replacement barrels. I upgunned my to .54 cal. litttle more punch with the heavy conicals. don't loose the wood that's the only thing t/c won't honor on the lifetime warrantee. the woodshop burned down a few years ago, so all the woodwork is contracted out. I had mine tuned at the custom shop-lightened the trigger to a nice crisp 2-lb letoff. And, if you get tired if the rifle there's the dop-in shotgun barrrel. My favorite load is a heavy maxi-hunter or Hornandy conical with 90grns of 3f (54 cal). 3' groups at 100 yds and a hell of a whallop! enjoy!
