RE: thoughts on 25-06 for hunting deer
I haven't had any experience with the 25-06 but I do have with a 25 wssm which is pretty close. And as far as I'm concerned it will take anything you want to in WV. (assuming that's where you do your hunting, going by screen name) I have taken deer with 30-06, 270, 7mm Mag along with the .25 wssm. It's up to the individual.

You've already got a .270. As a deer cartridge, the .25-06 is a virtual twin of the .270. I'd step it down further. Pick up a .22-250 or a .223 for varmint hunting. You've already got a nearly perfect deer rifle in the .270.

.25-06 and the .270 are in the same class (in fact, the .308 and 7mm-08 fit that class, too..........
Why would you insult the 25-06 and the .270 like that? In no shape or form are they in the same class as those other 2 rounds.
I absolutely love the 25-06 and have taken every NABG with it literally except Bears. But like others have said, I don't think there is enough diff between the 25 and the 270 to justify a new gun if money is a consideration. Now if you like 25's and you want to step it up a few notches, NOTHING beats the .257 Weatherby Mag.
I dont know who said that you wont gain accuracy in a 26" bbl. but that is wrong. In most over the counter grade rifles, in the longer cases or with the larger capacities giving the higher velocity like that of the .257 WBY and the 25-06 you most deffinitly WILL see accuracy improvements as the longer bbl will allow for more bullet stabilization, full powder burns and the higher velocity will allow for a flatter trajectory at LR.

Yep, both guns are great. Only point I would make is you better give more thought to which bullet your using with the 25/06...but this is pretty true with a 270 as well. Both can be explosive varmint rifles and both can be superb deer rifles.
If it were my money, I'd jump farther away in calibers. I've got a 270 and love it. But if I could buy another gun, I think I'd go for something in .35 caliber just because I've always wanted one. Either a .358 or .35 Whelen would tickle me pink. Both are way different from either the 270/.25.
Give yourself more variety and hunting options. JMHO.
