cleaning with a brush
 

I was wondering how often you guys use a bore brush on your rifle and what is the best way to keep from scratching the crown of your barrell with it? Ive heard some people say they never use a brush on theirs but it seems like you would have to sooner or later.

I apply some solvent to the barrel and let it work for a bit, thenrun a brush through a couple of times every time I clean the rifle. I always clean from the breach so I don't bang up the crown.

I use a brass brush each time with some cleaner on it and a bore guide. Don't use steel brushes.

after using the foaming bore cleaner stuff, i really dont think i'll NEED a brush...

my 22-250 coppers up REAL bad REAL fast...its very visible in the bore...and shoot best with a spotless barrel. same POI, just a little large groups...but someone recomended the foaming bore cleaner...i thought HA! ya right...doesnt smell, supposed to be safe and not eat the metal and all that kinda stuff...never gunna touch copper! a couple solvents and brushing didnt get that stuff out...

boy was i wrong....after a summer of using it, im impressed and will be using it for now on...let it sit 15-30 minutes(forget how long it is..) and patch n jag it dry...thats it! ive tried like heck to find copper in the bore after that, and cant. i even shot over a box of shells one day just to make sure i got it good and dirty and it still took it out...got over 100rds through the gun, i cant figure out why it coppers up so bad...i clean almost every couple shots since i got it except that one time and i had well over 100rds throguh it before doing that..should be about ready to settle down you would think...

I have not used a brush in years. Just buy a good solvent, or cleaner. Buy some good jags, and the right size patches. No need for a brush. If you need a brush then you have a problem. Tom.

It all depends upon the caliber and the bullets I'm shooting. Lead bullets from a centerfire? Then I brush after every trip to the range. Lead bullets from a 22LR, then I might brush every 500 rounds or so. With jacketed bullets it might be once a season.
