Please talk me out of buying a new rifle...
 

I was in Gander Mountain yesterday and I saw what I've been looking for for years, a stainless bolt gun in .270 WSM with fluted barrel and camo synthetic stock...and it was light. Very light. It was the Remington Model 7 XCR. I almost cried.

Problem is, I just bought a Sako 85 in .25-06 that was going to be my "go-to" deer rifle. I also have a Weatherby Mk-V in .300 Wby and a Remington Model 7 in .260 Remington.

Somebody please convince me that I do not need this .270 WSM.

If you think for one moment that you are gonna find someone on here to talk you out of buying a new gun, I think you might have picked the wrong forum.... Just suck it up, go buy it, and suffer along like the rest of us do.... Remember that old adage.."A man can never have too many guns"...

I say buy the Remington then put it in the safe with your new Sako. Maybe they will "hook up". Next time you will open the safe to find 2 little RemKos.:eek:

Nothing wrong with owning one center fire...I've owned my Ruger M-77 since 1980...No real need for another, get to know what you have and you will be a better shot...

IF I were to buy a new rifle, it sure wouldn't be a Short Mag...You have a good selection, work with them and you will be fine...

Richard, how could you possibly go through your hunting life with just a 260, 25-06 and 300 wby?
The 270wsm fills a huge gap you have in cartridges that are able to take big game ;).
You dont have a gun that will kill a whitetail deer weighing 202-207 lbs at yardages between 258 and 264 yards.

Apparently you have yet to shoulder the Sako Finnlight, I think its a full pound lighter than the XCR. I am in the same boat as you 'cept I bought a 300WSM (finnlight) first, now saving for the 25.06 in the Finnlight for company in the safe.

Don't you know there are gunless children in China...now go and buy it.
I can't even use a rifle to deer hunt here in central Iowa, but a new Marlin 336XLR is next on my list as soon as the funds are built up. Some day they might change the rules...
If not, at least I'll have another gun.

.270 WSM? The .300 WSM is a success, but how much so will the .270 WSM be? I think the jury is still out. I think you're fairly well covered, I think you need a .458 Lott or a .22-250 Rem.

My theory is you can never have too many guns.

When people ask me how many guns I own, I tell them not enough.

The 270WSM is probably the best short mag they made. The 25WSM would be even better if they'd just produce it commercially ;)

I think that if you really didn't want to buy it, or if you wanted to get talked OUT OF BUYING it, you would have asked the missus. You really wanted to buy it, that is why you asked this group of gun loving animals. you KNEW that we would tell you to buy it, and worry later. Notice, I said WE. I am in this group too. Go ahead buy it, don't regret it. You have wanted this for a while....

Hereis how I do it.I do not go near it or look at a picture of it for 21 days .By then I eather can't live with out it or I changed my mind or talked my self out of it. Kdvollmer it has been over 21 days and today I ordered the nightforse scope in the 5.5x22x50 thanks for the advice.

I have the Remington model 700xcr in 270wsm. and love it. Used it this last season and btook a deer with it. Have been shooting 6" dia. rocks at a lasered 500yds. with Winchester 150gr. Power Points. Very accurate. Get it,you need it and you will love it.

1. Just think of how many boxes of tampons you can buy for your wife at the store with that kind of money!

2. You can pay for a root canal or 1/2 of a bridge

3. You can pay for the replacement of a Chevrolet small truck or SUV instrument cluster to repair the gimpy speedometer.

4. A single spin on the Roulette table in Vegas, red, 17???

5. Install shiny cast wheels on your ride

6. Buy a Colorado bull elk tag and pay for your elk meat processing costs?

7. Buy a Wyoming bull elk tag

8. A month's worth of child support?

9. 280 shells of HeviShot 2 3/4 #6 duck load?

10. A new treadmill?

Yeah, spawning a couple RemKos would be great, but you have to worry that you'd also get some Sakingtons, the equivalent of the Danny Devito half of Twins.

Seriously though, buy the rifle.
