Most out perform their owners, the 300RUM is no exception and will take game way further then most would even consider. The applicable range of his new 300RUM will be defined by his ability with the rifle not the chambering;).

Good Luck to him, it's a 30 calheavy weightcapable of everything in NA and many species abroad as well.

It just amazes me that someone would buy a 300RUM and not really know much about them or ballistics.

it can accurately hit(with experience and practice)watermelons at over 850yds just to paint you a little picture.

I thinkthat about the only thingsthat will outperformyour .300rum in rangeare the 6.5 grendel .338 laupa, 408 cheytac, .50bmg

A friend of mine has one and he won't shoot it unless he absolutly has to. One time when we were hunting, he told me that he hoped he didn't see anything to shoot at. He shoots it one time before season to see if it is still sighted in then rubs his shoulder for ten minutes. BUT it kills things dead.;)

As far as range goes, be sure to salt the bullet so it will preserve the meat while you hike out to the kill.:D

Goodness, its not that bad James. Think your exaggeratin a tad. I burned out 2 of em and owned 3 of em.

Point I was getting at is the question his father asked. What kinda range does the gun have. Dependson how accurate the gun is. And how accurate the shooter is. We all know that, but he didn't and still bought a 300RUM

just about anything in the 300 magnum cartridges will be more than adequate out to 1000 meters. There are military special ops units that use the 300's for their long range sniper rifle. Often chosen over the 308 because of the extended range.

Ballistic charts are one thing, being able to shoot is another.
Good choice, shoot a bunch and get used to it.
