RE: Would yo buy a Weatherby

Just my opinion, but if you have owned a sako, why would you want a weatherby?

I have owned two, a 257 and a 300.Accuracy was good with the 257(just under 1") but not with the 300(between 1-1/4 and 1-1/2")so I sold the 300.I used the 257 for several years and sold it a few years ago.The trigger was no better than a 700 and workmanship was pretty good.I have had no problem getting accuracy as good or better with much cheaper factory 700's and would never pay the extra money for a weatherby.

otis, I see what you are looking for now. I don`t have alot of knowledge on the lightweights, but I understand that the rem. model 7 is pretty sweet. I have a browning A-bolt that is fairly light. Surely someone here can guide you to a lightweight, quality shooter. I really should not put down weatherby`s, it is just that I have never seen one that could shoot any better than a savage 110. For the kind of money they cost, I would expect more than a pretty face.

I own a 340 Wby. Mag. my best group right now with it is .408" with my handloads. It has been a very good rifle. I plan to buy a 7mm STW in a Weatherby Accumark in the very near furture. Good Luck.

Ouch! :)

I think I'd honestly be afraid to even fire a .340 after hearing/reading that it's recoil is "brutal". Is yours equipped with a muzzle break?

yes, in my opinion they are worth the money.i own 3 right now along with a host of other guns and the only guns comparible to them are sako's and blasers . yes sako's are heavy , that's their only downfall. blasers come with a 26" barrel and are blued with a special type of chemical which with handle any weather you can throw at it. around me weatherby's are $1100 sako's $950 and blasers $1500

I don't own one , but a friend of mine does.
I get better groups from a model 70 Winchester, so for the money I wouldn't waste it. Just my opinion though.
