RE: hardest kicking load for shotgun?
ORIGINAL: statjunk ORIGINAL: gmil6184 I would tend to agree with everyone that 3 inch turkey loads are brutal, i've never shot a 3.5 inch and have no desire to. This past spring i was turkey hunting and got a nice bird but in all the excitment i forgot to keep my head back from the scope, and that 3 inch mag drove that scope right between my eyes and opened up a nice gash...took 8 stitches to close it up. I used to slug hunt and shot the 3 inch Remington Copper Solids and those used to beat your shoulder up, the NY county where i hunt switched to rifle so i started using my 7 mag. compared to those 12 gauge loads the recoil from the 7 mag feels like a gentle breeze. RE: hardest kicking load for shotgun?
Well he was in close, i don't really use the scope the extend my range at all, i just like the precision of putting a crosshair over my target instead of a bead or iron sights. In fact i think it is even more useful on the closer shots at like 20 yards or so where your pattern is about the size of a baseball. I used to scoff at people who used scopes on turkey guns saying things like "they are only 30 yards away what do you need a scope for?" but after i tried it i really liked it...just keep your head back where it belongs haha

RE: hardest kicking load for shotgun?
no i dont have a scope for my tukey gun.......my tukey gun, my squirrel gun dove gun, duck gun etc all use the same barrel a smoth bore barrel. i have to use a scope on my slug barrel because it has the scope mounts on it and no iron sights

RE: hardest kicking load for shotgun?
Try shooting a 3 inch magnum slug out of an H&R Single Shot Deer Tracker II. Holy Crap does that hurt. It left an imprint of the recoil pad in my shoulder:D The only way my friends got to use my shotgun when we would trap shoot is if they could shoot 2 3 inch magnum slugs out of my gun. Guess what, i never had to share:D

RE: hardest kicking load for shotgun?
do single shot guns usually kick more?
|
RE: hardest kicking load for shotgun?
Yes unless they have the bull barrel. They are much lighter than a pump or auto loader

RE: hardest kicking load for shotgun?
I guess I am from a diffrent breed. I will admit that my 835 in 3 1/2 " does kick, to me it's not bad. I always shoot the heavy loads. My 10 gauge with slugs is a mule kick the the body every time. I always get one new friend that "has to try it" They never want to shoot a 2nd shot. Of course a 2 oz 700 something grain slug will let anyone know. lol
