Bullpup Rifles Ugly???

So me and Huntinggirl89 have had this long going conflict in views over this "new wave of the future" bullpup rifle design. She thinks theyre butt ugly, I think that depending on the rifle they are kinda cool. Dont get me wrong, these cool synthetics are not meant to stand up to the eligance of a fine wooden stock but I feel that they are pretty cool in their own right. So what you all think?
I broke it down and listed many different examples below, which do you find Ugly, which do you find Beautiful??? (or at least cool)

Kel-Tec's new 7.62mm BullPup Rifle(USA) MSRP= $2000

Steyr stg. 77 AUG Assualt Rifle 5.56 (Austria)

TAR-21 5.56 (Israel)

FAMAS (5.56) (France)

FS 2000 5.56 (Belgium)

FN P90 5.7mm (belgium)

Bushmaster M-17 5.56 (USA)

I like my Kel-Tec PLR-16,not really sold on the design of the pup but have seen a few vidios of them being shot and it is cool..

I'm gonna vote ugly. Functional yes, asthetically pleasing, not so much.

I do like the look of MP-5's though. Especially the SD-5 models.

RE: Bullpup Rifles Ugly???

I'm going to have to plead ignorance here as I've never shot one. The bullpup design is hardly anything new as it's been around in rifle form for a long time. The notion that the military and police are banging out versions of it is I suppose new...and as a military rifle, it may end up serving quite well in the future. Who knows.

But I think the best grade I would give them just now is butt ugly. Several of them make me nausious just to look at them. Time will tell.

see its the oddness of their design that make them so appealing, they dont look like you generic rifle, not that theres anything wrong with that but design of the ar-15 is something we have seen for 50 years and the shape of the basic rifle for over a hundred. these are new and oddly cool (for me anyway lol)

yeah bullpups arent knew, but now they seem to be gaining fame and appear to be the future in europe and probably in our future as well.

AND I AGREE the Mp-5D5 is very very pretty!

Ditto. First time I saw one I thought it was just a movie prop.

The first one isn't too horrible, they just look so dang uncomfortable to shoot. I love hugging the butt of my rifle and look foward to a quick mag swap-out once the AR is complete, but I just can't see doing that with that kind of a rifle.

Functionality beats aesthetics on any battlefield. You can't see it when you're looking down the sights anyway...

I've had a lot of fun shooting the FN P90. It takes some getting used to, but if I were a truck driver or something in a hot zone, I could see the use of something like that.

I'm sure they function fine, but I just can't bring myself to see them as anything but ridiculous. I think they look like they are either some sort of mutant office staplers or theycame from the set of Battlestar Galactica. [:'(]

IMO a rifle designed for military andLE use has noneed, what so ever, to be "pretty". So long as it functinos flawlessly, isdurable, and allows the "good guy" an advantage over the "bad guy"then they are beautiful rifles. Think about how many of our guys lives could have been saved back in WW1 and WW2, etc... when they were clearing tight spaces likebuildings, tunnels, caves, etc...had they had an ultra compact and ultra quick handling rifle like these bullpups instead of thoselong bulkyrifles like the Springfield andGarand.

Springfields and garands could be shot left handed to shoot around right corners to reduce one's profile without the ejection port being in their left ear. Springfields and Garands were all battle tested. Springfields or garands won't make the receiver and 1/2 the barrel a permanent part of your head if fired with an obstructed barrel or out of battery.

They dohave their use though- firing out of vehicles. Then again any submachinegun or folding AK will do just as well if not better.

Funny I was thinking Buck Rogers . Never cared for the plastic guns and that FN-P90 is just creepy . I wonder about the slamfire effects and life span in real worldlaying in the mud combat . Who cares armies will never go head to head again any way. I think that just as women have been accepted in combat the southpaw will be aknowledged and hooked up not made to shoot righty to conform. The combat side arm will be used for clearing to the left know doubt .

RE: Bullpup Rifles Ugly???

just wanted to say that most bull pups are ambidextrous. theyre meant to replace submachine guns because they rifle rifle round with more penetration power than even a 45 acp.

RE: Bullpup Rifles Ugly???

I like the look of some bullpups. Not many though.

The thing I see as the big advantage is you get a maximum barrel length for a minimum overall length by pushing the barrel back into the stock. I see that as a big advantage in urban/close-quarters fighting. No long weapon to attempt to swing around in a narrow hallway.

I think compact is easier to carry--even when not in use. A standard rifle you really have to make a choice between carrying it in a way that it doesn't swing much (like slung diagonal across your shoulder) or carrying it in a way that is easy to quickly shoulder and use.

That's my 2ยข.

I think the kel tec rifle looks interesting but the thought of spending 2,000 on a kel tec seems wrong.
