Gun cleaning ???'s
Who make a quality gun cleaning kit?
I've seen some on T.V. where the rod appears to be coated with something. I just busted another rod and am fed up with the "Wally World" brands of kits. |

at Cabelas you can get cleaning rods that are teflon coated to protect your barrell. I would recommend you stay away from bare stainless rods or the cheap aluminum rods.

Any quality one piece rod will work far better than your previous rods. Some people like a coated rod and claim that they will not damage your barrel. Mine is a one piece uncoated stainless and have never had a problem. I would highly recommend that whatever you buy, make sure that the handle has bearings that allow the rod to twist naturally as you push it through the rifling. I normally buy most of my cleaning supplies from Midway. Here is the link:

I personally like the coated Dewey rods myself, they will last a lifetime if cared for. I highly reccomend a bore guide also, Dewey, Outers/Gunslick,Stoneypoint all make them.

I have a Tipton Carbon rod and I really like it. I buy everything seperate and am not much on kits.

1 piece rod, bore guide and accessories individually as well. As far as a rod most of mine are coated Dewey's and they have been excellent. I just received my first Tipton Carbon Fibre rod this christmas. Either one IMHO is a darn fine choice and will last many years.
Ifeel a bore guide is a must! I have Dewey andBoretech Guides, equally pleased with both of these manufacturer's products. All that is required is Bronze or Synth. bore brushes(No stainless steel), jag, solvents and patches (I cut mine out of t shirts, they can be cut to size for everything from my .17 to .58 cal.). |
