Ruger Single Six sight choices?
Okay, I got my ruger single six and took it out the other day and was suprised at how fun it was to shoot. I was also suprised at how quick and easy it was to start shooting somepretty goodgroups at 10 yards and some decent ones at 25 yards from a standing position.
What I was suprised about was that I was hitting consistently high. I burned about 100 rounds through andmygroups wereconsistently 1" high at 10 yards and about 3" high at 25 yards. I started intentionally aiming low and was able to compensate for it at known yardages, but if I ever use it for field use I may not know the exact yardage I'll be shooting. I've looked around and there are a few options out there but my single six has the fixed sights and I'm not sure what is available for the fixed sight version. I found a part on www.midwayusa.com that showed it will convert the rear sight to an adjustable sight for $15 is this something I can put on myself? http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=421942&t=11082005 I also saw a few colored sight kits but they don't look like they would be something that I could use on the single six. Another thought I had was buying some of that high visibility paint and putting a line a fraction of an inch lower on the front sight to use to help line it up. Any thoughts on the subject? Thanks, Nathan |
RE: Ruger Single Six sight choices?
Did you try burying the front sight as deep as you could get it into the bottom of your rear sight and still see it?

I had a similar problem with a Kimber pistol and finally realized they had put the wrong blade on the front of the gun. I called Kimber and they agreed with me and rushed me a new front sight out. Possibly this is what happened to you. Worth a call to Ruger.

3" is quite a bit, but you might try some different loads. A high velocity load should hit a bit lower than standard velocity loading.

ORIGINAL: jtb1967 3" is quite a bit, but you might try some different loads. A high velocity load should hit a bit lower than standard velocity loading. I might need to get back out and use a rest, but my groups were fairly decent (about 2" at 10 yards with several holes actually touching each other). |
RE: Ruger Single Six sight choices?
The 22 WMR has had a heavier bullet so the recoil may have offset the velocity increase so it still shot high. Next time try a high or hyper velocity 22 LR.
I'd also try shooting from a rest and see what happens. It never occured to me that you were shooting offhanded. |
RE: Ruger Single Six sight choices?
I'm sure you cranked down the rear sight completely. If you did and are still shooting high, give ruger a call. They may be able to send you alower rear blade for your rear sight. This same thing happened to me with my S&W 29. They sent me a new rear blade and screw with instructions on how to replace it.
