Scope Mounting Questions???

I just bought a new Burris fullfield II 3X9 - 40 to replace the old 4X Redfield on my Husqvarna .270. I'm using the original weaver detatchable base. The problem is that the eye bell has a greater diameter than the old scope and I need to get another 1/32 - 1/16 of an inch clearance to bring the bolt back with out scraping the bell. I'd like to do this with out changing out the mounts/bases. Is there any type of shim out there that can be used? Any suggestions?

I would NOT recommend shimming, this creates even more reason for a scope not to hold zero and come loose. I used high mounts for the burris scopes to give them that needed extra room. Weaver 4x4's highs work great for a good mount system that won't break your wallet. My opinion.

RE: Scope Mounting Questions???

Looks like I'm going to have to buy new rings. I stopped by Sportsman's Warehouse on the way home tonight and talked to them. I'm going to take my rifle in there in a few days and have the guy look at itand get me set up. I'm leaning to the Burris rings. They'll fit my weaver bases and should function the same. I also understand that they are steel and not aluminium.

Thanks for the help

Burris are excellent rings, just thought you wanted something a little less expensive?

Mike, I'm open to suggestions. I didn't want to spend any $$ after laying out 200 for the scope (still got a deal). It looks like decent rings are in the $20 range. Do you see a big difference in the price and quality between the weaver and the burris rings? Is there a difference in weight?

thanks again for your help.

There are rings available from a number of dealers that are made to use on Weaver bases. I'm sure you can find such rings that are high enough, probably at Sportsman's warehouse. At least, they will have charts, and you can have them order the ones you'll need. Don't get any that are any higher than necessary to raise the scope JUST the required amount!
