Default M77 Hawkeye

I am going to be getting a new rifle, but I am still shopping around. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either the Ruger M77 Hawkeye or the Browning A-bolt, (I like its smooth bolt). Those are what I am thinking of now, might change later though. I will most likely get it in .270 win. Thanks.

I don't have a hawkeye, but a buddy does, and its a good shooting gun. I own 2 A-Bolts, and both of them will shoot my handloads into a nice lil clover leaf.

I was looking at one in 7mm Mag. It was a nice gun but i liked the Tikkas better. I like the Synthetic stock on the Tikkas and the Ruger was quite a bit longer then the Tikka which would be bothersome during bear and deer hunts in thick brush. The Ruger was about 4in longer then the lightweight Tikka i got.

I love mine - have one in a 25-06 - got it basically for the specific reason that it was moderately priced and it was the only rifle I could find in a .25-06 that had a magnum contour barrel. All weather stainless - didnt know if i would like the 3 - position safety but i have grown to love it. The action on the ruger will get smoother after you clean er up good - has a lot of oil on it from the factory and once free of that it gets much much better. Trigger isnt bad - better than the old rugers and about comparable to an a-bolt adjusted all the way down. All-in-all - its a great gun for the price I paid - I compare it to something in between a remington sps and xcr

I love the Browning A-Bolt but I have to say that the triger on the newer Ruger are a vast improvemnet over the older ones. I am shopping for a new 270 but the CZ is what I am looking at most.

I have a lot of experience with browning a-bolts and highly reccomend them. Their trigger is adjustable and is easy to get a good, crisp, slick, light trigger pull with just a bit of tinkering. There's so many features a-bolts have that makes them(in my opinion),ahead of mauser type actioned rifles but ruger IS 1 of my favorite brands in other catagories.

I've been looking at the Hawkeye and the Frontier! I was leaning to the Savage because of the Accutrigger, but I've heard good things about the new Ruger trigger and the Savage is so ugly!
