Model 70 300 RUM

My question involves the size of my action in this particular chambering. Is is longer than the standard long action post 64? The max cartridge length is 3.600 which is standard for the H & H magnums. Is this longer than the normal standard long action. I am asking because I am thinking about another stock but none of the makers seem to be able to tell me. It sounds like this action is the same and will fit stocks made for a standard long action. Center to center screw measurement is 7 5/8 inches.

I'm not 100% sure but I'll take a stab at it. I believe Winchester uses the same action on 300 RUM rifles that they use on their Safari Express line. The reasoning is the Safari is chambered for the big long dogs such as .375 H&H which is too long for the standard long magnum action. The standard long magnum action accomadates up to .300 Win mag which has a saami overall cartridge length of 3.340, same as 30-06 and so forth. The saami overall recommended for .300 RUM is 3.600. Plus I think the opening in the action itself is slightly longer. So to answer your question screw to screw measurements would be the same, but the Ultra mags box is slightly longer. I actually took the wood stock offmy Sporter LT .300 RUM and used it on my M70 stainless .30-06 one year, bolts lined up and itshot fine. But thestock had excessive room going fromlong express magnum box to standard length. If you get a stock for standard longactions you might have to openthe box area upa bit, could depend on stock manufacturer.

So does anyone know a quality synthetic stock manufacturer that makes a stock for this action or am I stuck with the factory one. I know that laminated can be inletted from the descriptions from you guys but it sounds like an aluminum block stock is out of the question.

They will all work . The magazine box on the rums has the spacer removed which will allow it the extra length. The bolt release is also different. Otherwise the same long action. True Magnum action for safari length cartridges and example would be the CZ 550..Rems and Wins are the same length for their magnums
