What do you guys think of this gun model? and caliber?

No experiance at all with the new Ruger Hawkeye but Rugers in general are good quality,tough rifles built for hunting..not just sitting in the safe looking pretty. Everyone has a favorite cartiridge and the 280 is mine. IMO the 280 is the greatest thing since sliced bread:D

I personally havent looked at or shot the hawkeye, have heard some big negatives which suprises me, but I would place 100% confidence in a M77 in 280!

What do you guys think of the new x-bolt?? I just got to lookin around and I think this is the gun I want it looks very nice. I'm thinkin the browning x-bolt stainless stalker in .280 rem. shall be my christmas present that I will buy for myself. Any scope suggestions??

The X-bolt is too new for me to have an opinion, only read a few articles so far and haven't even seen 1 yet. My go-to gun is a Composite Stalker A-bolt in 280, I use it more than all my other guns put together.. I've had in for at least 10 years now and absolutely love it. If the X-bolt turns out to be the equal of or better than an A-bolt, I would buy 1 in a second.

Put the best scope you can afford on your rifle and dont look back. I like Nikon scopes myself,I have them on a few rifles.My 280wears an older Monarch 3 x 9.

Yeah it looks like a great gun to me.Looks to be built very nicely. I also looks to be built off of the a-bolt. Ill just havewait andlook at one when the gun shop recieves them.

The Ruger Hawkeye All Weather I bought a few months ago for my son is a really nice rifle. I'd take it over any A-Bolt, a rifle I've owned in the past.The new Rugeris a 7mm-08 scoped with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40and is proving to be quite accurate with the loadsI worked up for it. My son took his first ever deerthis pastweekend withit.

How is the stock? Is the action smooth?

The stock is injection molded plastic I'm pretty sure. It doesn't compareto aMcMillan or some other expensive aftermarket synthetic stock, but it's not too bad. I like the dimensions of it and how it feels.

As far as theaction is concerned, well, it'snot the smoothest I've ever operated, but I'm kind of spoiled in that regard since I own Sakos and pre-'64 model 70's. However, it's considerablysmoother thanthe previousRuger 77 I owned before. The trigger is an improvement over the older design also, though here again it's not in the same league as some of my other guns. I'm going to take it to a smith after the season and have him lighten it up a bit.

Bottom line is: When I bought this gun for my sonI didn't expect it to be as nice as my other riflesandfor the most part it'snot. However, I've been pleasantly surprised with how well it operates and shoots. In fact I keep telling my son that as soon as he's old enough to shoot some of mybigger rifles I'mgoing to confiscate the Ruger and use it myself.

I would have 100% confidence in any rufer product especially when compared to Browning!
