Which would be better??

Which would be a better all around cartridge for whitetail, elk, mule deer, and black bear a 7mm ultra mag,300 win mag,or a 338 win mag? Or would you go with something else?

They all sound a little overpowered.

Out of those you listed I would pick the 300 Win Mag. With it you can also put Brown Bear in that group. But for me & I hunt everything in that group, the ole 30/06 is my choice, with 180 grain bullets.

7mm Remington Mag will handle all listed and then some.Of the one's you listed I would go with the 300 Win Mag but IMHO a little more then needed.

RE: Which would be better??

depending on how far you average shots are.

anything under 300yds i peronally think there is no need for a magnum.
my opinion on a great whitetail round is the 280rem or 30-06sprg. for short action 308win or 7mm-08rem.
as for your others yu have mentioned i cannot comment on those since i use a 35 whelen and 450marlin on whitetail.

over 300yds i think the 300mag will be fine out of the three you mentioned. the ultra is better for moose and elk hnting.

RE: Which would be better??

300 Win Mag, not a 300 WSM. Probably the best all around big game cartridge ever. BTW, there is no such thing as overpowered but there is definately a such thing as being underpowered.
