.308 vs. .270

I am looking for a good all around caliber and am thinking either a 270 or 308. What are your guys thoughts?

Click here... It's already been discussed.

Edit: I personally favor the .308 due to its legendary accuracy and besides, the ammo is cheaper. The .308 and .270 both will do the job.

CAN'T GO WRONG WITH EITHER CALIBERS, I HAVE BOTH AND HAVE TAKEN DEER WITH THEM BOTH. MY CHOICE FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS IS THE .270 IN A REMINGTON MODEL BDL WITH A RAMLINE STOCK. HAVE SHOT ONLY HANDLOADS FROM MY .270 SINCE IT WAS NEW.

I own and love both, but if I could only have one I would pick the 270 Winchester!

Go with the .308.... It is a great round, with heavier bullets available in factory loadings.

It is also a short action caliber, and is available in more compact firearms than the .270. It is available in standard size guns, but if you want a Remington Model 7 ora Ruger M77 Compact or something like those, you have to get the .308 as they are not made in .270, and I love the shorter guns. They carry and point easier, and they are a lot more user friendly in a tree stand.

I own both of the guns mentioned above, and they see more use than any of my standard length guns, or the long action cal's.

Good luck
