RE: Is a .30 cal ml carbine sufficient for whitetails?

I shoot it often. It's a blast!
At deer? 3 shots, 2 deer personally. One shot was a clean miss the other two were heart/lung shots. There was more damage to the deer I shot with my M1 than to the deer I shot with my .300 savage.

ostdc,
I wasn't really responding to any sarcasm,...I took it like many others mean it when they say things like "I'm sure your dead deer was more dead cause you shot it with a magnum and I didn't"....actually I thought that if you have had success you have every right to mention the gun's usefulness. I wish I had one. It is actually the first gun I ever carried for deer, since I didn't own my own and it was all my dad had to spare for me to carry. I had practiced a lot at the range and was pretty good at around 50 yards. I never got to fire it at a deer, and nowadays, b/c I own so many other well suited guns, I probably never will. But I can see their utility in a well organized drive for medium sized deer at close range. Wish I had one just for fun plinking.

YES, IT IS CAPABLE OF KILLING A DEER IN A VERY LIMMITED SITUATION. BUT IT'S NOT AN "IDEAL" DEER CAL. PERSONALY I WOULDN'T. IT'S A GREAT LITTLE GUN BUT NOT SUITED FOR DEER. JMO.
