Modus Operandi for Cerberus in a lot of cases is to buy up a company make it profitable so it is attractive to potential buyers.
I guess there's a lot of good and bad potential then.

Good- company becomes more stable.
Bad- possible job cuts, more outsourcing, potential to have a foreign investor buying the companies as in what happend to S&W a decade ago.

I still cannot believe that they had 250 million + in debt and that the company was only worth 117 million. Unbelievable

Are their Mauser based rifles, the 798 and 799, junk?

Remington? It wouldn't suprise me. They have been in the same boat as winchester- not introducing a groundbreaking new product line in the last 40-50 years (unless you really really think the 710 and 597 are wonderful), but instead offering new redundant chamberings to try to sell rifles. You can add that their quality certainly hasn't increased int he last 20 years either. If someone today were to ask me to justify buying a remington rifle over a Tikka, Savage, or CZ, I couldn't do it.

They also bought Chrysler. But, their long term plan with them hasn't really been released.

Maybe remington branded Dodge trucks with a camoflage paint scheme.

I don't think that's how you value it.If the cash paid was $117 million, and the buyer assumed $252 million of debt, then the value of the purchasewas $359 million.
