Slug gun

I'm thinking about a slug gun for my 17 yr. old. One option I was considering was to purchase a t/c pro hunter and then get a slug barrel for it. This would give me alot of options. Any thoughts? Thanks

Im not really into the T/C weapons. I think they are way over priced but thats my opinion. I would get a Mossberg or Remington combo so he has both a rifled slug barrel and a smooth bore barrel.

I agree with Retaks, they are way over priced but well built. I would take a look at New England Arms or H&R( same company). They are cheaper with pretty much the same options incalibers. They are very accurate and well built.

I have many slug guns, and this past summer purchased the H&R Ultra Deluxe 20ga., a pleasure to shoot, and a track driver and won't hurt your wallet

The TC would work well for what you want, and the slug barrel comes with a faster twist rate so it might shoot better than most of the other 12 ga options.

You can do the same thing with a H&R but you need to be careful how you go about it. Not everything is interchangeable. You have to pick your platform carefully. Like lets say you go get a H&R ultra deluxe with the heavy barrel like I have. Not a bad slug gun for the money, but there are not too many options for it. The 12 ga heavy barrel is basically a 10 ga blank bored to 12 ga. So the frame for this gun is the 10 ga frame and the only barrels that will fit it are other 10 ga barrels, which is pretty limited.

Now if you get the 20 ga Ultra it is a 12 ga blank bored to 20, and it sits on the regular 12/20 ga frame so you can put any 12 or 20 ga barrel except for the 12 ga heavy slug barrel. However you cannot put any centerfire barrels on it.

If you want to do that you need to get a handy rifle, they will take centerfire barrels and most shotgun barrels. Again, the 12 ga heavy slug barrel or a 10 ga shot barrel will not fit these guns, they take a different receiver. So you are limited to the 20 ga heavy barrel with the scope only mount, or a tracker barrel with open sights.

And all these barrels need to be fitted to the frame. You can't just go buy a barrel and slap it on. You either need to order the barrels when you buy the gun, or send the receiver in and have them fitted when you want a new barrel. ( gun smith can do it as well I believe.)

The encores do not need this, you can just buy and swap barrels.

I have handled both weapons in centerfire versions, and like I said I own an Ultra deluxe slug gun. The TC's are more expensive, but they are a bit nicer weapon as well. You need to go look at both and see if the price difference is worth it to you.

Rossi also makes combo models as well, but I am not over excited about them. Never shot one to be honest though.

If you get a Mossberg 500 you could use a shot barrel, slug barrel and a .50 muzzle loader barrel if you want, but no centerfire options. And the triggers are nothing like what a TC or H&R will be.

My opinions anyway.

TC Pro-Hunter has endless possibility. If you want a good price on one and options give me an e-mail [email protected]

Find an ithaca m37 slug gun with a rifle barrel. The problem with most slug guns that have a slip on barrel is the tolerance between the receiver and the barrel shank. The ithaca has a screwed on barrel so it should be more accurate. TC sure spends a lot of money on advertising wish they put it into research since I think the Knight KP 1 is a far superior rifle if it ever gets going.

I've never shot the Rossi, but you can get a matched set, 50 cal ml, 243 rifle, and rifled slug barrel(12gauge) for $285. Worth checking out anyway.

I really like my Rem 870 with rifled barrel and cantiler scope mount, with the Nikon Prostaff 2-7x 32mm scope.
