Right off hand, I would say that it could not. The receiver action screws spacing, the 788 has a scpacing of 7.062", don't match up with any popular type actions that I know of.

Thanks 1SHOT,I was wanting something to keep on my 4-wheeler.Was hoping I could change one of my 788's so I would not worry about the clip vibrating out.(.308 carbine)Guess I just have to go with the Win. 94 AE in 30-30.

Are you allowed to have your clip in your rifle when travelling on a motorized vechile?? What is so hard with just slapping the clip in when you need to fire the rifle?.

Nicholal,I don't know if it is legal or not but I have always carried something on my tractor on my farm on my land.I am not talking about hunting purposes(hunting from a vechicle),mainly dispatching varmits, crippled critters or whatever comes up in a day around the farm.I guess it's like riding a horse with 4 wheels instead of 4 legs.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I also looked into this a few years ago. If one has more money than sence it can be done, but for all practical purposes we have to live with the detachable magazines. There are kits to buy off the shelf for the model 700's but nothing for the 788. Course as I have faced living with the clip you could always give those old 788's to me...

LOL......Jed,I guess I had better keep my old cheap 788's.Bad thing is I have owned (and still do)rifles that would not touch most of my bone stock 788's.
