Find a coin, and toss it.
There'll be no appreciable difference in the deadness of the dear, nor how quickly they assume that state. There'll be no trouble finding ammo anywhere you go, nor will there be any limit to the choices of bullets available to you, nor will there likely be much of a difference inthe price ofammo. that's meant for hunting purposes. There'll be nomeaningful difference in trajectory at the ranges you mention. There'll be no problem finding virtually any brand/make/model/style of rifle you could desire that would be chambered for either cartridge. The only real difference would be if you really get excited about the slight difference in handling between a long action & a short action rifle. And if you ever did want to hunt bigger critters, either cartridge would serve you there, too. Pick either one, and start practicing! FC |

Folically Challenged said it best. The deer will be just as dead with either of your choices at any range you shoot. Flip a coin and let it decide for you. Or better yet just get 2 different guns. One in each of the cartridges.

The 308 just has something about it that makes it a deer killer. I on the other hand have a 270 and love it I have killed deer at 60 yards to 160 and they fall where they are or go less than 30 yards. The 270 is superior on the charts but just go to the gunshop close your eyes and grab one, and you'll be happy with it.

RE: rifle cailber opinions
Out of curiosity, if my shots were at 400 yards, what caliber wouldyou choose between the two?
|
RE: rifle cailber opinions
For deer? I would choose the 270 just because it shoots a little flatter but either would work well at that distance. For game larger then deer i would go to a 7mm Mag or a 300 Mag.

RE: rifle cailber opinions
For 400 yards I would use the 270 it shoots a little flatter and keeps good speed.
