RE: 30/30 or .44
ORIGINAL: CAJUNBOWHNTR Most of my woods hunting is done with a model 7 308 and honestly I have not seen any difference in terminal performance at close ranges. The Marlin 336 I have is also very accurate at 100 yds with factory corelockt bullets. CB |
RE: 30/30 or .44
I don't like the 30-30, I don't like leverguns, and I don't have much use for a levergun in a handgun cartridge. If I wanted to limit myself to a cartridge and gun with similar capabilities to a win-94 in 30-30, I'd use a SKS in 7.62x39. I guess I'm not sentimental, a traditionalist, or like to do things the way 'granddad did them':D

RE: 30/30 or .44
my opinion: out of the guns i have, if i had to choose one rifle to keep for deer hunting, it would be my marlin 30/30. at short ranges 100 yards or less it is extremely effective. im shooting winchester superX 150 gr. hollow points, and on a bench it shoots 1" groups at 100 yards, and only cost $15 a box. im not sure how the.44 would wade a little brush, but i know the 30/30 will do it. so if it was me i would get the 30/30...but none of us can decide for you, we can only provide you with our opinions and experiences with the calibers you mentioned....hope it helps

RE: 30/30 or .44
I have both, and out of the 2, the 30/30 is more accurate at longer distances. But under 100 yards, I feel that the 44 would be the better gun if forced to use it for anything larger than a deer, it just makes a bigger thud. Both are cheap to shoot and are time proven designs that have been around for many many years.
