which ammo in a Mossberg 500
 

i know it changes from gun to gun

but What ammo would you guys recommend i start using when i get my 500

i wont to try a few and get the best round for my gun but i do not wont to shoot 100 different loads before i get one that works i thought about three federal win. and rem.

also what slug for a smooth bore for deer of coarseand what load for turkey duck and say pheasant and rabbit

Went to the range with my dad today to put some sabots through the new rifled barrel and scope combo that he put on his 12G Mossberg 500. The remmington solid copper sabots did not group well at all. Typical grouping was 4"-6" at 50 yards. The winchester XP3's were a totally different animal. They shot sub 2" groups. We wanted to try the Hornady SST's but the gunshop only had the Winchester XP3's which looked like a comparable slug. If you try the Hornady SST's let me know how they do.

In a smooth bore I've always had the best pattern with Winchester XX 1 ounce slugs. The $8 for a box of 15 style. You might also try the Remington 1 oz Sluggers too $2 a box.

You are right. He as an aftermarket rifled barrel and scope combination that shoots the sabots well. If you reread my post I did mention that the barrel was rifled.
