Custom Rifle Questions

I have decided to build a rifle that was going to be a dual purpose weapon for hunting and competition but after feedback and the realization tht I hunt more than comp shoot it will only be used for hunting. Below I have included specs about how I would like it to be, any info on my barrel choice, optics, action and caliber would be greatly appreciated. Also, trying to keep the wieght down as much as possible Because I ill be hunting in mostly wooded areas but eventually in Canada and in mountain like areas as well. The game I am looking at mostly hunting is Whietail, Elk, Bear, Ram(big horn sheep) and eventually an African Hunt or two. Any suggestions or possible better products than what I have is more than welcome, this is my first custom job and would lke to do it right and be able to pass it to my son.

RE: Custom Rifle Questions

A couple of guys I hunt with have custom rifles made by Jim Borden in 300 borden caribou . These guys swear by them, I've only handled the guns. I don't know if you have someone set-up to build it for you or if you're building yourself but I see Borden sells his actions as well. I've attached his web-site. Good luck.

I would stay away from the 6.5x20 for hunting. The eye relief changes so much when changing magnification, that I have to move my head on the stock to maintain the proper sight picture. The lower magnification models are much better in this regard.

You'll need to build 2 rifles-1 for huntin and 1 for comp.

Find some of the custom gun forums and see what is used by those fellas. I would definatly say the scope mentioned isn't the best choice IMO. I've found the lower magnification models are more useful in actual field use. The trigger...I do believe Timney and Canjar would be better chocies too.
Defibately find more specialized forum that focus on this area and read/search/read what is there.

Is it going to be a walking/hunting rifle or a sitting close to the truck type rifle?

All I can say is you need to rethink the intended uses and componets.
